APM Terminals Mexico strengthens the home of the monarch butterfly
APM Terminals Mexico made a financial donation to the MOMA HOPE project, following the delivery of 60,000 oyamel fir trees to reforest the monarch butterfly sanctuaries in Michoacán.
With the start of the monarch butterfly season in late October and their greatest presence throughout November, one of the year’s most remarkable natural events begins.
As part of its commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation, APM Terminals Mexico has made a financial contribution to the MOMA HOPE project, further supporting the initiative to plant 60,000 oyamel trees across the monarch butterfly sanctuaries in Michoacán. Each year, this species travels thousands of kilometers from Canada and the United States to the forests of Mexico.
This contribution, made in partnership with CPKC Mexico, aims to support the maintenance and long-term preservation of these newly planted trees, reinforcing efforts to protect the habitat of the monarch butterfly and safeguard this natural heritage.
The MOMA HOPE project also stands out for its collaboration with indigenous communities, who have inhabited and protected these lands for generations, strengthening local identity and community well-being.
“At APM Terminals Mexico, we recognize that conservation efforts not only benefit the environment but also represent an opportunity to build more resilient communities—proud of their heritage and committed to their surroundings,” said Beatriz Yera, Managing Director of APM Terminals Mexico.
This project—unique within APM Terminals globally—has also enabled the donation of essential tools and supplies to support maintenance activities within the protected areas of the sanctuary, ensuring ongoing local efforts in favor of biodiversity.
For APM Terminals Mexico, MOMA HOPE exemplifies how collaboration between companies, strategic partners, and communities can create meaningful and lasting impact—one in which nature and people thrive together.
